In the Docket
“I’m the problem, it’s me” is a famous line from Taylor Swift’s song Anti-Hero. And it turns out, a New York jury recently agreed with her sentiment when it came to entertainment giants Live Nation and its subsidiary, Ticketmaster.
In a landmark antitrust ruling in April 2026, a federal jury found the company liable for violating the Sherman Act by maintaining an illegal monopoly over the live music industry with their “flywheel” business model – controlling everything from artist promotion and venue ownership to primary ticketing to systematically stifle competition and strong-arm venues into exclusive deals.
For law students, this is a massive case study in vertical integration and market dominance.
Hopefully, your tickets will be cheaper for the next concert you attend!
